Asian Games gold medalist Tom Kim, 24, and Yu Hae-ran, 25, the top performer among Korean players on the LPGA Tour, will compete as a team.
The Grant Thornton Invitational, a two-player event pairing one PGA Tour player with one LPGA Tour player for a total purse of $4.1 million, announced its field for this year's tournament on the 21st.
Kim, a four-time PGA Tour winner who captured the men's individual title at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games this month, will join forces with Yu, a five-time LPGA Tour winner.
Kim and Yu share a connection from July 13 this year, when they won a PGA Tour event and an LPGA Tour event on the same day. Kim took the Genesis Scottish Open, while Yu won the Amundi Evian Championship, a major. Kim's caddie is said to have recommended Yu as his partner for this tournament.
The tournament runs for three days from December 11 at Tiburon Golf Club in Florida. The first day uses a scramble format, in which both players hit shots and continue from the better position. The second day is foursomes, with the pair alternating shots using a single ball. The third day features modified four-ball, in which each player tees off and then switches to the partner's ball.
Kim finished runner-up at this event in 2024 with Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand. It is Yu's first appearance. Nelly Korda of the United States, the world's top-ranked female golfer, is paired with Michael Brennan. Jason Day of Australia and Lydia Ko of New Zealand, the inaugural champions in 2023, will team up again.
