Edmonton travellers will soon have another direct flight option to the New York region, with Air Canada announcing a new route between Edmonton and Newark, New Jersey, starting in summer 2027.
The new route is part of an expansion of Air Canada’s transborder network with United Airlines, which will also see increased capacity on its YEG to San Francisco route by deploying the larger Airbus A220.
The announcement is part of a broader expansion of flights between Canada and the US next summer. Air Canada will also introduce new service between Toronto and Louisville, as well as Montreal and Indianapolis.
United Airlines, meanwhile, plans to launch seasonal service between Newark and St. John’s, Nfld., and add new routes from Denver to Ottawa and Quebec City.
The two airlines say the expanded network will offer more options for travellers between Canada and the US, including access to more than 1,200 connecting itineraries.
The Edmonton-Newark route will operate four times weekly from June 1 to Oct. 17, 2027.
“This route opens the door to one of the world’s most important business, financial, and cultural centres, creating new opportunities for tourism and trade while making it easier for people and businesses to connect,” said James Jackson, vice president of Air Service and Business Development at Edmonton International Airport.

The new YEG-to-Newark route is the latest addition to Edmonton’s growing list of nonstop flight options, which is great news for travellers who prefer to skip a layover in Calgary.
On Thursday, Flair Airlines announced it was launching nonstop commercial air service between Edmonton and Saint John, N.B., the first route of its kind. The airline also announced in May that nonstop flights between Cancun, Mexico, and Edmonton would return this December for the winter travel season.
Meanwhile, WestJet announced in August it would be increasing its service between Edmonton and destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean by 34 per cent this winter.
