Police have urged residents of Kalagi in Nakifuma Town Council, Mukono District, to strengthen community-based crime prevention efforts by reporting suspicious activities, sharing security information and working closely with security agencies.
The call was made on October 14, 2026, during a community sensitisation exercise led by the Deputy Commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), ACP Gerald Twishime.
The exercise aimed to strengthen police-community relations, promote crime prevention and improve public awareness of security matters. It brought together police officers, local leaders, religious leaders and members of the public.
Twishime thanked residents for their continued cooperation with police, clarifying that the engagement was not necessarily prompted by an increase in criminal cases but was intended to strengthen collaboration and bring police closer to the community.
He encouraged residents to maintain contact with police officers, promptly report criminal incidents and suspicious activities, and establish or strengthen neighbourhood watch initiatives to improve security in their respective areas.
The Deputy Commander also cautioned boda boda riders against motorcycle theft, warning that suspected thieves often use deceptive tactics to steal motorcycles from unsuspecting operators.
He urged riders to remain vigilant while conducting their businesses and to report suspicious behaviour to police to help prevent theft and protect their property.
Twishime further emphasised the importance of public cooperation in identifying security threats and addressing community concerns before they escalate into serious incidents.
On the forthcoming Local Council I (LC1) re-elections, he said the electoral timetable had already been issued and assured residents that police were prepared to provide security throughout the electoral process.
He warned individuals intending to cause chaos or disrupt the elections to desist, urging residents to uphold peace, law and order before, during and after the exercise.
The sensitisation meeting provided an opportunity for community members to engage with police on security concerns and discuss ways of strengthening cooperation in crime prevention.
Police reiterated the importance of timely information-sharing, community participation and collective responsibility in maintaining peace and protecting residents in Kalagi and surrounding areas.
