The Pittsburgh Steelers have been calling around for a veteran wide receiver ahead of the trade deadline, which is on Nov. 10, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
“Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin are the two guys with connections to Mike [McCarthy] that are on rosters now and know his offense. But I haven’t heard of anything on either front. I do know the Steelers have been calling around on veteran wide receivers since the injuries last week and I’d imagine that continues with two WR on IR,” Pelissero wrote.
With the Steelers down three wide receivers — Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson are on injured reserve while Ben Skowronek is dealing with a calf injury — Pittsburgh is in desperare need of another wide receiver.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings is expected to draw trade interest, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. That is one receiver that could be on the Steelers radar. Former Steelers wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are also currently free agents.
Jennings was linked to the Steelers this offseason. The Ringer’s Austin Gayle ranked the top free agents in the 2026 cycle and tabbed Jennings at No. 14. George Pickens (No. 1) and Alec Pierce (No. 9) were the only wideouts slotted ahead of Jennings.
Gayle also believed the Steelers would be the best fit for Jennings.
“Jennings has reliable hands, plays through contact, and can consistently win his matchups over the middle of the field, skills that have helped him become one of the league’s best chain movers,” Gayle wrote Tuesday. “He ranks tied for fourth among qualifying wideouts in first-down conversions per route run on third down over the past two years (2024-25). Jennings is also tough as hell. He told reporters in (last) October that he was playing through high and low ankle sprains, had a shoulder ‘at 20 percent,’ and had five broken ribs.”
Jennings, 28, has posted a 17-game average of 48 receptions, 585 receiving yards and five touchdown catches. Two seasons ago, he posted career-highs with 77 grabs and 975 receiving yards.
Valdes-Scantling was with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason but was released in August. He signed with the Chargers on Sept. 23 and was released on Oct. 17.
The 31-year-old played with Rodgers for the Green Bay Packers from 2018-21, and was drafted to Green Bay under the current Steelers coach Mike McCarthy.
Valdes-Scantling played in five games for the Steelers last season, catching 10 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown.
“I love MVS. I’ve always enjoyed playing with him,” Rodgers said last October before Valdes-Scantling signed with the Steelers. “He’s one of my favorite teammates of all-time. He is a really special guy, and I think MVS can still really play.”
