Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia has ordered state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina to deploy additional vessels to transport fuel to East Java and Bali amid concerns over supply shortages.
"I have just called for doubling ships to avert unwanted conditions in multiple regions and allow for accelerated efforts," he told reporters at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry in Jakarta on Friday.
Bahlil, who also serves as energy and mineral resources minister, said Pertamina had informed him of supply disruptions in East Java, Bali, and several other regions due to freight transportation issues.
He made the statement in response to a report from the Indonesian Ombudsman, which found disruptions to fuel distribution and refueling services in various regions across 11 provinces as of Oct. 13.
Ombudsman member Abdul Ghoffar said disruptions had been identified in Bali, West Papua, Banten, West Kalimantan, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, West Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Aceh, and West Java.
He added that the Ombudsman would further investigate the issue to ensure that fuel, particularly subsidized fuel products, remains accessible to the public.
Through its subsidiary Pertamina Patra Niaga, Pertamina assured the public that it had taken a series of measures to restore fuel services in Bali after long queues were reported at fuel stations across the province.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Vice President for Corporate Communication Kitty Andhora said the measures included distributing 57.9 million liters of fuel, extending the operating hours of fuel stations, strengthening coordination among operational units, and deploying additional tanker trucks.
