Round 1
Yan walks out with his kids by his side. And yes, he will have his young son in his corner for a UFC title defense.
Hre we go! Dvalishvili with a brutal leg kick right off the bat to rock Yan off balance. And a great right hand for Dvalishvili that lands! Dvalishvili now shoots for a single leg but Yan gets back to his feet. Intense start for the former champion, who threatens with a kick, but instead goes for the back on the feet. Yan defends the position, but Dvalishvili keeps the high pace with a head kick again a takedown attempt. Yan separates again. Crowd is pro-Yan and try to help the UFC champion with “Yan” chants in support. Yan with an oblique kick, and Dvalishvili again with the single leg takedown attempt that misses — but has Yan worried. Yan with a nice jab now. Dvalishvili has him down with a body lock but Yan is again in his feet. What a frenetic first round! Dvalishvili with another well-timed takedown to put Yan on the ground, but the Russian gets back to his feet straight away. Dvalishvili won’t let go of the position, though. Can Dvalishvili keep this pressure for four more rounds? This is insane.
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Dvalishvili.
Round 2
Round two stars and Dvalishvili connects a head kick, and then a spinning back kick! Yan with a jab, immediately countered by Dvalishvili. Dvalishvili has his back now, but can’t take him to the ground. Quick jab and another takedown for Dvalishvili, but Yan sweeps and is on his feet again. Dvalishvili with non-stop wrestling tonight. The pro-Yan crowd boos, but Dvalishvili just doesn’t care. He shoots again! Yan has success getting back to his feet, but nothing offensively. Leg kick for Dvalishvili, right hand, and guess what? Yep, another takedown attempt. Yan finally lands a combination of punches, and Dvalishvili responds. Yan connects a great left hand as Dvalishvili tried for a takedown, but the ex-champion gets it eventually. Yan gets back up again. I may sounds repetitive here, but trust me, it’s all happening over and over inside one round.
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Dvalishvili. Overall, 20-18 Dvalishvili.
Round 3
They change leg kicks, and this it took Dvalishvili 40 seconds to shoot the first takedown attempt. Yan is up and again in the center of the cage. Loud “Yan” chants from the Abu Dhabi crowd, and Dvalishvili is losing every second of it. Oh, Yan has now easily defended three takedowns in a row… Dvalishvili circling from the outside, Yan misses a left hook and defends another takedown. Yan is now finding the target to connect a couple of punches! And more jabs for the champion. Dvalishvili continues to jump left and right so not sure how tired he could be, but he’s definitely having a harder time with takedowns. Yan lands again and the crowd goes nuts! Again! Wow! But He has Dvalishvili in trouble now with a liver kick. Kick to the body for Yan, and round comes to an end.
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Yan. Overall, 29-28 Dvalishvili.
Round 4
Dvalishvili immediately goes for a takedown, but fails. They trade punches, and Dvalishvili’s takedowns are not working anymore. Yan with a solid jab. And another one. Yan rocks Dvalishvili with a right hand, and follows it up with a left hook to the body! Yan keeps finding the target with his hands now! Uppercut to the chest by Yan, and hard jab by Dvalishvili. Yan again avoids a takedown, and connects an uppercut.Good right hand lands for Dvalishvili, and the champion responds with a solid jab. Yan closes the round with a kick to the body.
MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Yan. Overall, 38-38.
Round 5
Dvalishvili lands a good right hand a second into the final round. Yan pushes him against the fence and continues to attack. How can they keep this pace in the fifth round? This is insane. Yan has Dvalishvili against the fence and attacks non-stop with punches and a jumping knee. Dvalishvili’s 51st takedown attempt fails. And the 52nd. And another one. That’s already an all-time record as far as takedown attempts, but Yan has all the success right now with his striking. Dvalishvili misses a head kick, and Yan makes him pay with another left hook to the body. Dvalishvili with a one-two, only to again get hit with a left to the body. They are trading like crazy with a minute left! Yan rocks Dvalishvili with a left cross, and another kick to the body! Dvalishvili is exhausted, but keeps marching forward. What a fight!
