The final piece of the revamped Delta Center planned for 2028 features a completely updated front door, shifted to face east and look out toward a completely new walkway and mixed-use district expected in time for the 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
The home of the NBA’s Jazz and NHL’s Mammoth sits amid a major remodel, just one piece of the 35-acre development next to the arena that the teams’ owner, Smith Entertainment Group, says will completely remake the entire downtown. “We’re creating a walkway all the way through, and a paseo that connects the culture, convention and sports and entertainment all together with a central gathering place where families and people can come experience local food, experience iconic brands and really have a cool place to go,” says Ryan Smith, SEG chairman and CEO. “The Delta Center will have a new front door. It will be facing directly east.”
As part of the new plan for the district, SEG plans a 6,000-seat Live Nation music venue expected to host between 80 and 120 events each year, a vertical rebuild of the Salt Palace convention center, a new art museum, updates to the city’s symphony home of Abravanel Hall and shopping, dining and a new hotel.

“This is a massive win for Salt Lake City,” says Erin Mendenhall, the city’s mayor. Jenny Wilson, Salt Lake County mayor, says the updates to the Salt Palace will make it a central hub for the 2034 Olympics.

With gobs of more work now planned for outside the Delta Center, the updates to the 1991-opened arena haven’t slowed. Since Smith brought the Mammoth to the venue, it has undergone extensive renovations, including remaking the seating bowl to accommodate hockey sightlines without losing its ability to host basketball. This offseason the arena’s upper north end zone underwent work to feature new terrace-style ledges with full-view seating. Suspended gondolas along both sidelines offer a bird’s-eye view of the event floor for over 200 fans, all combined with hospitality. Work also continued at a new parking structure.

Renovations to suites began on the north side in 2026 and will finish in 2017. Additional upgrades included added food and beverage options, updated concourses and concession locations, new social areas, expanded restroom capacity and enlarged club spaces.
The final piece is shifting the entrance to face east, offering a new front façade for the Delta Center aligned with the planned district.
