The Globe Health Assessment Clinic has organised a free medical screening exercise to improve access to healthcare and encourage the early detection of diseases among residents.
The exercise, held as part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, offered community members free health checks, including ultrasound scans, full blood count tests and other medical assessments.
The clinic’s Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Oppong, said the initiative was intended to support people who struggle to pay for medical care and encourage them to check their health regularly.
Speaking to the media during the exercise, Mr Oppong said financial difficulties prevented many people from seeking medical attention, making community-based screening an important way to help them identify health problems early.
“You know, in our community, a lot of people are really struggling to pay for medical bills,” he said.
“That’s the main reason why Globe decided to support the community with the medical screening today,” he added.
Mr Oppong said that early detection was essential to identifying health conditions before they developed into more serious problems.
He encouraged residents to check their health periodically, explaining that timely medical assessments could help them seek treatment before their conditions worsened.
The decision to hold the exercise in October was also linked to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which focuses on raising awareness of breast cancer and encouraging women to undergo screening.
Mr Oppong said the clinic had made ultrasound services available to support women and other residents who wanted to undergo medical checks.
“We decided to organise this event to support the community members and also to encourage the community members to come around and check their breasts and their womb,” he said.
He added that the clinic was ready to use its ultrasound equipment to help residents access the necessary examinations.
The exercise was the clinic’s first community outreach programme since it began operating.
According to Mr Oppong, the turnout was encouraging, with residents visiting the facility throughout the day to benefit from the free services.
He described the response as overwhelming and urged more people to take advantage of the opportunity to assess their health.
“We are expecting as many people as we can. We have had a lot of people coming in from morning till now, and it’s been amazing the whole day.”
He said the clinic was providing several services at no cost during the exercise, including ultrasound scans and full blood count tests.
“We are doing ultrasound for free. We are doing full blood count for free. We are doing vaccinations for free. We are doing everything for free,” he said.
Mr Oppong encouraged residents to make use of the exercise, particularly those who might otherwise delay medical checks because of financial constraints.
Mr Oppong said the clinic intended to make the screening exercise an annual event, with future editions to be held at its facility.
Beyond the annual programme, the clinic also plans to use its medical van to extend its services to communities in other regions.
He said the expansion would allow more people to benefit from the facility’s diagnostic services, particularly those who have limited access to healthcare.
“We will do that every year. We will do it in our facility here,” he said.
“We have a medical van that we want to extend to other regions so that other community members or other regions will also benefit from whatever Globe Health Assessment Clinic is doing to support the nation,” he said.
Mr Oppong described the initiative as part of the clinic’s commitment to giving back to society by helping people access medical assessments.
He said the facility was prepared to support residents to undergo health checks and identify possible medical concerns.
He said the clinic offered ultrasound and other diagnostic services, laboratory testing, electrocardiography (ECG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The facility also provides tuberculosis testing for people applying to travel abroad, including students who need medical screening as part of their travel requirements.
