Muscat: An advanced training programme on investigating maritime accidents and incidents is being organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology—represented by the Transport Safety Office.
The 5-day programme, which kicked off on Sunday, aims to develop specialised national capabilities in the field of investigating maritime accidents and raise the readiness of national cadres in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
The programme deals with technical aspects in the field of investigating maritime accidents—including methods of collecting evidence and information, analysing the sequence of events and identifying causes and related factors. In addition, it seeks to draw lessons and draft recommendations for enhancing maritime safety and minimising chances for the recurrence of such accidents.
The programme constitutes a platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge and consolidating integration among sectors of the maritime community in the Sultanate of Oman and GCC states.
