ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s top military and interior security leadership held high-level talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, putting bilateral security cooperation and regional stability in the spotlight amid shared challenges facing the two neighbouring countries.
Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Pezeshkian in the Iranian capital in a high profile meeting. The meeting has drawn attention to Islamabad and Tehran’s continued high-level engagement, particularly as both countries share a border and have longstanding interests in counterterrorism, border security and regional peace.
The agenda of the talks is yet to be shared as any agreements reached or decisions taken were not immediately available in the reported account by Irnaian media.
Asim Munir’s back to back visits to Tehran shows sustained contact between Pakistan’s military leadership and the Iranian leadership. The engagement comes against the backdrop of shared security concerns and the importance of maintaining communication between the neighbouring states.
Pakistan and Iran have repeatedly underscored the need for cooperation on border management, counterterrorism and broader bilateral relations. These issues remain central to their efforts to address security challenges and prevent instability along their shared frontier.
The meeting between Pezeshkian, Munir and Naqvi could provide another opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest and strengthen coordination between the two sides.
