Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT OSCT Indonesia is prioritizing safety and readiness in the Regional Marine Pollution Exercise (MARPOLEX) 2026, a trilateral oil spill drill in Bitung, North Sulawesi, on Oct. 8-12, deploying more than 200 personnel.
"Safety is the top priority in every operation we run," President Director Kukuh Surya Sigit Sentosa said in a statement on Monday.
"Look after yourself, look after your team, and look after Indonesia's seas,"he added.
Kukuh is overseeing the company's participation in the exercise, his first Regional MARPOLEX since taking the helm.
The company said its approach emphasizes equipment readiness, regular personnel training and close coordination with government agencies and industry partners to support safe and effective operations.
The company also deployed 40,000 meters of oil containment booms, working with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation and state-owned port operator Pelindo.
The booms contain and control the spread of oil spills, helping limit their impact on marine environments and coastal areas.
A retired two-star Army general whose final post was special staff to the Army chief of staff, Kukuh brings military experience to the company's operational oversight.
OSCT Indonesia said it has participated in every MARPOLEX exercise.
The exercise brings together participating countries to strengthen coordination and response to marine pollution incidents.
Personnel safety, equipment readiness and inter-agency coordination are essential to minimizing risks to responders.
The drill was hosted by Indonesia's Directorate General of Sea Transportation (DGST) with the Philippine Coast Guard and Japan Coast Guard.
Twenty-one vessels from the three nations took part, including the Philippines' BRP Gabriela Silang and BRP Tubbataha, Indonesia's KN Sarotama and Japan's PLH Shikishima.
