The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi has declared Umar Hassan-Augie the winner of the fresh primary election for Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency with 33,013 votes.
The fresh primary was conducted on Saturday across the 21 political wards in the constituency by the party’s national committee, led by Shehu Kawu-Damina.
Announcing the results, Mr Kawu-Damina said Mr Hassan-Augie defeated his challenger, Samir Salihu-Felande, who polled 1,319 votes.
He said the constituency had 44,784 registered delegates, while 34,332 votes were cast in the election.
“Having conducted the fresh primary election for Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency, and as the returning officer from the APC National Headquarters, I hereby declare Umar Hassan-Augie, who secured the highest number of votes cast, winner and return him elected as the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives,” Mr Kawu-Damina said.
He said the declaration was made in accordance with the powers vested in him as the returning officer for the exercise.
The fresh primary followed a ruling by the Federal High Court sitting in Birnin Kebbi on October 15, which nullified the earlier primary election and ordered the APC to conduct a fresh exercise within two weeks of the judgement.
