Prince District RCMP allege that the accused attempted to suffocate a man in his 80s with a pillow.
RCMP were called to a home in Cape Wolfe at about 3:20 a.m. on Oct. 15.
The RCMP said the preliminary investigation indicated the alleged attack was stopped after a third person in the home heard the commotion and intervened.
Police said the victim and the accused were known to each other.
“This was a serious and violent incident that could have had tragic consequences,” said Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis, commanding officer of P.E.I. RCMP.
David Alfred Howard was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Summerside on the morning of Oct. 16 on one count of attempted murder.
The RCMP said the investigation remains ongoing.
