IMPHAL, Oct 18 : The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has informed Rajya Sabha MP A Sharda Devi that the inclusion of Manipuri language in the House’s real-time translation and transcription system is under consideration.
In a letter issued by Deputy Secretary (Systems) Sandeep Pandey, the Secretariat stated that it had introduced live AI-based simultaneous interpretation in nine languages through Multi-Media Devices at Members’ seats.
The facility will be gradually expanded to cover all 22 languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, it said.
The Secretariat further stated that efforts are underway to extend real-time translation to all Scheduled languages, including Manipuri, under the "Vani Setu" initiative being developed as part of the Sampurna Digital Sansad (SDS) project.
According to the letter, initial trials for including additional languages had already been conducted.
The communication was issued in response to Sharda's letter dated August 24, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, seeking the inclusion of Manipuri in the Parliamentary translation and transcription system.
