PETALING JAYA: Perlis menteri besar Abu Bakar Hamzah says he will appeal against his suspension from Bersatu.
Abu Bakar acknowledged the party disciplinary board’s decision and said he would file his appeal through the prescribed procedures.
He said his suspension would not affect his position as menteri besar or disrupt the state administration, which would continue as usual.
"The party’s suspension decision has no impact on the state administration. People should not confuse the two issues.
"As a leader or member, the suspension is a party matter. As menteri besar, I will continue to administer the state in accordance with the Perlis state constitution," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Bersatu suspended Abu Bakar from the party effective Oct 14. The suspension takes effect for two party election terms.
The suspension letter stated that the board met on Oct 13 and decided to suspend Abu Bakar’s membership under Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu constitution.
The action reportedly followed breaches of Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution, as well as its code of ethics and conduct.
Abu Bakar was also stripped of his positions in Bersatu and barred from making any statements on behalf of the party throughout the suspension period.
