Kathmandu, October 12
The Maldhunga Bridge connecting Baglung and Parbat districts along the Mid-Hill Highway has reopened from Monday morning after flood damage disrupted traffic.
The bridge’s approach road was damaged by flooding in the Kali Gandaki River on September 27, affecting transportation along the route.
Authorities repaired the damaged section by installing gabion mesh and filling it with soil, allowing the bridge to resume operations on Monday.
The Maldhunga Bridge spans the Kali Gandaki River and connects Baglung and Parbat along the Mid-Hill Highway. With the bridge back in operation, vehicles stranded or affected by the disruption are continuing towards their destinations.
Erosion on the Parbat side of the bridge had caused particular difficulties for travellers during the festive season.
While the bridge was closed, people had to cross the river on foot using suspension bridges, including the Gandi Golden Suspension Bridge linking Baglung and Parbat, and other suspension bridges in Kushma. They then had to find vehicles on the other side to continue their journeys.
