At least four eruptions have been recorded at Mount Semeru in East Java, Indonesia, the Asian country's Center for Volcanology and Geohazard Mitigation reports.
According to the center, the ash column rose to a height of 900 meters—4,576 meters above sea level—from the volcano's summit.
The eruptions were accompanied by emissions of thick white and gray ash, which spread to the southwest.
The aforesaid center urged local residents and tourists in the region to stay away from the crater within a 5km radius due to the risk of hot rock ejections, and warned of the risk of lava flows, hot clouds, and mudslides along nearby rivers.
