AUSTIN - The Spurs are back in Austin with a twist.
This time around, they're part of a mega sports fall weekend for the Texas capital.
The lineup: The United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas runs Thursday through Sunday, the Spurs face Texas alumnus Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets on Friday night at the Moody Center, and the No. 19 Longhorns hosts No. 7 Ole Miss in an SEC showdown on Saturday night.
"Being part of the big weekend, I feel like it's big for us," Spurs guard Dylan Harper said at a late Thursday afternoon session with reporters at the team's downtown hotel.
"We love to be a part of events like this."
The defending Western Conference champions will play two more games in Austin in the winter, but those contests against Memphis on Feb. 26 and Denver on Feb. 28 won't have the sense of excitement this one is generating.
"It's a heck of a weekend for Austin," Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. "It's a weekend that hopefully people locally, regionally, and obviously even globally are going to take a lot of attention and enthusiasm to.
"And I think the city's ready for it and hopefully they enjoy it."
