Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, stated that the federal government faced two options: either leave Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to its fate or take practical measures to liberate the public from terrorism and unrest.
Governor’s Rule had to be imposed to provide relief to the people and improve the law-and-order situation in the province, he added.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Engineer Amir Muqam claimed that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been suffering for the past 13 years, and the Tehreek-e-Insaf government showed no concern for the public interest.
He remarked that the lives of the province’s 40 million people had been paralyzed and the public had grown weary of the provincial government’s performance.
The Federal Minister asserted that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have rejected the slogans and claims of Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He noted that while the party had expected the public to take to the streets following the imposition of Governor’s Rule, this did not happen.
He further claimed that the people view Governor’s Rule as a “Day of Deliverance,” with sweets being distributed in some areas to celebrate the move.
Amir Muqam stated that establishing the writ of the state is the government’s responsibility, and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have demonstrated that they are not anyone’s tools but stand firmly with the state.
He commended and thanked the security forces and police for their performance in preventing untoward incidents in the province.
The Federal Minister stated that the primary responsibility of the new administrative setup is to ensure public welfare, improve law and order, and provide essential amenities.
He emphasized that effective measures would be taken to eradicate terrorism and that the government and security forces would jointly combat the menace.
He noted that the Prime Minister is personally overseeing the process of implementing the emergency measures, while a meeting of the Apex Committee is also underway to deliberate on effective strategies and actions against terrorism. Prime Minister desires the development of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and aims to ensure that its residents enjoy the same facilities as the people in other provinces of the country.
Referring to the alleged plunder of resources in the province over the past 13 years, Engineer Amir Muqam asserted that there must be accountability for these actions.
He further mentioned that discussions had been held with the Inspector General (IG) of Police and the Chief Secretary regarding the difficulties faced by the public concerning transportation and movement.
