Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted that the boos from the Old Trafford crowd hurt after his side dropped more points in a draw with Tottenham.
United conceded a stoppage-time equaliser against Tottenham after Bryan Mbeumo had put the hosts ahead in the 70th minute, extending the frustration surrounding Carrick’s spell in charge.
The result came after Tottenham had dominated large parts of the encounter, leaving United to regret another failure to see out a game after taking the lead.
Carrick acknowledged the supporters’ frustration as pressure continues to build following a disappointing run of results.
The former United player enjoyed an impressive interim spell last season before being appointed permanently, but the club have since endured their worst start to a season since 1986.
Reflecting on the performance, Carrick said the team’s problem was not necessarily a lack of confidence but an inability to manage difficult moments.
“I don’t think it is lack of confidence, but a game can get away from you very quickly. We found a way right back into the game, and got ourselves in a great position – that is one of the most disappointing things,” he said.
The United manager described the match as inconsistent, acknowledging his side’s slow start before praising their improvement after the break.
“It was a mixed game. We found it tough to start with. For a number of reasons, we were not quite there. You could see it was a challenging time.

“But the lads grew into the game, in the second half I thought we were better in everything.
“To get the game as we wanted it, in such a good position – we should see it through. We have to manage those situations. That’s two late goals which have hurt us, and things look very different. That’s the reality.”
United have won only once this season, against newly promoted Ipswich, and remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Carrick’s side will next travel to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League before returning to domestic action against rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
