The Indian embassy in Paris on Wednesday issued an advisory asking Indian citizens to exercise caution amid violent protests in France.
Widespread demonstrations are being held in several European countries against increased cost of living, rising fuel prices and allegedly worsening public services.
In France, student-led protests that began in mid-September demanding education reforms have snowballed into a wider unrest. Some demonstrations have turned violent, with protesters targeting public buildings, looting luxury boutiques and supermarkets, and attacking police vehicles and officers.
On Tuesday, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said that new curfews will be imposed in parts of the country, as the authorities sought to restore order after weekend demonstrations turned into riots.
The authorities would coordinate with mayors to decide whether imposing a curfew was necessary in their respective provinces, Lecornu said.
In view of the curfews and the unrest, the Indian embassy advised citizens in France to be vigilant, avoid large gatherings and crowded places, and follow instructions from the local authorities.
Indians were also asked to stay informed through local news outlets and check for disruptions to public transport services.
On Monday, similar advisories were issued by the Indian embassies in Italy and Albania, where protests have also caused public disorder amid clashes with the police.
