Sanaa – Two Yemeni officials told Reuters that the Houthi group launched several missiles toward the presidential palace compound in the southern Yemeni city of Aden.
Residents reported hearing five consecutive explosions that shook Aden, while plumes of smoke were seen rising from the area where the Maashiq presidential palace is located.
Residents told the German Press Agency (dpa) that the explosions were heard throughout the city.
In the southwest, Yemeni sources reported an escalation in fighting between government forces and the Houthi group on the outskirts of Taiz and in the Sabr al-Mawadim district, south of the city.
The sources confirmed that the Houthi group seized control of Mount Han, west of Taiz, after a day of fierce fighting in its vicinity, noting that Houthi positions and reinforcements were targeted by a series of airstrikes.
The ongoing clashes have displaced thousands of families from the outskirts of Taiz to its center, amid a siege imposed on the city and the prevention of basic necessities from entering.
Similar numbers of families were also displaced from villages in the Sabr al-Mawadim district, south of Taiz city.
In a related development, the Southern Giants Brigades announced they were deploying military reinforcements to the al-Mudharabah front in al-Subaiha district of Lahj governorate to confront the Houthis.
