Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, has appointed Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as his new Chief of Staff following the resignation of Segun Ogunwuyi from the position.
The governor also appointed Mrs Aderonke Adedayo as Director-General of the Due Process Office, with both appointments taking immediate effect.
The appointments were announced in letters signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.
The development marks a change in the leadership structure of the governor’s office following Ogunwuyi’s departure and places Akinwole in a key position within the state government’s administration.
Akinwole’s appointment is expected to see him take charge of the responsibilities associated with the Office of the Chief of Staff, which serves as an important link between the governor and various arms of the administration.
Wolekanle appointed chief of staff
Akinwole is a grassroots politician who previously served as chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission.
During his tenure at the commission, he was involved in the administration of local government affairs across the state.
His appointment as Chief of Staff brings him into the inner circle of the governor’s administration, where he will be expected to support the coordination of government activities and the implementation of Makinde’s priorities.
The Office of the Chief of Staff plays a central role in managing the governor’s official engagements, facilitating communication with government officials and coordinating administrative matters within the governor’s office.
However, the announcement did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding Ogunwuyi’s resignation or the specific responsibilities assigned to Akinwole under the new arrangement.
Adedayo gets additional responsibility
Meanwhile, Adedayo has been appointed Director-General of the Due Process Office while retaining her existing position as Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies.
The arrangement means she will continue to handle her advisory responsibilities alongside her new role.
The Due Process Office is associated with ensuring compliance with established procedures in government transactions and promoting transparency and accountability in public procurement.
As Director-General, Adedayo will be expected to oversee the office’s responsibilities in line with the applicable rules and procedures of the Oyo State Government.
The announcement, however, did not outline any new policy direction or additional measures to be introduced under her leadership.
Makinde congratulates appointees
Makinde congratulated both appointees and urged them to carry out their responsibilities with loyalty, commitment and dedication to the service of Oyo State.
The governor’s message emphasised the need for the new appointees to demonstrate commitment to their duties and contribute to the administration’s objectives.
Both appointments took effect immediately, according to the letters issued by the Secretary to the State Government.
Akinwole’s appointment follows Ogunwuyi’s exit from the position of Chief of Staff, while Adedayo’s elevation adds a new responsibility to her existing role in the state government.
