By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceno is leading a high level delegation at the 2026 World Bank and IMF meetings in Thailand.
And, during an interview with Focus Taiwan, PM Briceno said that China’s sanctions against Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Fonseca were “uncalled for,” “unjustified,” “wrong” and “illegal.”
“We are very concerned and disappointed that China would take such a position,” Briceño added.
“We believe that we are an independent country and, as an independent country, we should be allowed to make our own decisions,” he said. “We believe that we are doing the right thing by standing with Taiwan.”
The Prime Minister further reiterated Belize’s support for Taiwan.
