BUSAN — The Busan Metropolitan Government is accelerating a hands-on outreach program in which the mayor visits all 206 neighborhoods in the city to handle residents' day-to-day complaints in person. The plan is to raise what residents actually feel by offering immediate solutions and city budget support for long-standing local problems.
The city said on the 12th that it will visit sites across Suyeong and Nam districts as the third round of its "206 Neighborhood On-Site Outreach Project" under the ninth popularly elected administration. The program is a hands-on approach to governance that activates a one-team cooperation framework between the city and its districts and counties to resolve even small neighborhood-level issues on the spot. Mayor Jeon Jae-soo will tour major pending issues and complaint sites in the two districts with Suyeong District Mayor Kang Sung-tae and Nam District Mayor Park Jae-beom.
In Suyeong District, the mayor will visit Suyeong Historic Park and the Suyeong District Youth Culture Center in turn, focusing on issues close to daily life such as creating a premium historic park in the city center, securing space for youth career experience programs and building a support system for at-risk young people.
In Nam District, the group will inspect aging gutter facilities around Hantop on Yongso-ro and along Hwangnyeong-daero 90beon-gil near the Busan International Finance Center (BIFC), and will discuss ways to improve the walking environment and prevent disasters. For the inconveniences identified on site, the mayor plans to pledge swift project implementation and budget support through close coordination between the city and the districts.
The site visits will close with a luncheon meeting to hear accounts from residents on the ground. The mayor will visit Jeiljip Chueotang, a "Good Price" restaurant in Daeyeon-dong, for a meal and conversation with local residents and the Nam District mayor.
The restaurant is a second-generation family business that has shared side dishes with older residents and cared for people outside the welfare safety net for more than 30 years. The mayor will present a "Good Price Business Support Plaque" produced by the city, as a token of gratitude, to Park Se-hyeok, the current owner who took over the business together with his bereaved family. Kim Chul, chairman of Korea Hospital and a recipient of the 42nd Proud Citizen Award, will also attend.
"Reports received inside the city office alone cannot fully capture the varied lives of our residents," the mayor said. "Over my four-year term, I will visit every corner of all 206 neighborhoods without exception and work on the ground to create real change in residents' daily lives."
