MOSCOW, October 22. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed participants of the Russian Theatrical Society’s congress, which gathered in Moscow’s iconic Bolshoi Theater, a TASS correspondent reported.
The congress is held once in five years. Previously, the organization was known as the Union of Theatre Workers, and was renamed during today’s congress.
Addressing its participants, Putin noted the special role of theater in shaping personality, and the deep reverence for this art in Russia. "In Russia, theater is revered and loved, and its voice is undoubtedly listened to and trusted. People take pride in and admire renowned actors, directors, playwrights, and artists," he said.
The president added that theater possesses "a truly great moral mission."
This year, the Russian Theatrical Society marks its 150th anniversary. About 2,000 events in various parts of Russia have been scheduled to celebrate this, including the launch of two "theater trains" - from Sevastopol to Moscow and from Vladivostok to Moscow.
