Jorabat, Oct 25: A long-pending power problem in Jorabat has moved towards resolution, with APDCL installing a new transformer near the Jorabat Police Outpost following The Assam Tribune’s report highlighting persistent voltage fluctuations and repeated damage to household electrical appliances in the area.
The report, published on October 17, drew attention to the prolonged problem faced by consumers in the area and the earlier proposal for a separate transformer to cater to one of the worst-affected pockets.
Following the publication, the SDO, Sonapur Electrical Sub-Division, APDCL, visited the site along with departmental field staff and the contractor. The location for the transformer was finalised during the visit and the work was given the go-ahead.
Installation commenced the following day and the transformer was completed within two days.
The transformer is expected to improve the power supply for consumers in the affected pocket, where residents had earlier reported voltage fluctuations and low-voltage conditions resulting in damage to refrigerators, fans, lights, inverters and other electrical appliances.
Residents welcomed the development and acknowledged the response from the department. They also expressed appreciation to The Assam Tribune for highlighting the issue.
“We had been facing the problem for some time. After the report was published, the SDO visited the site with the field staff and contractor, and the work started the next day. We appreciate the department for completing the installation quickly and The Assam Tribune for bringing the issue to attention,” said local resident Arnab Bhattacharjee.
