(ANSA) - ROMA, 13 OTT - The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) has inaugurated its new office in Accra, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Ouagadougou office. Already present since 2021, AICS is expanding and strengthening its presence in Ghana, which has been a priority country for Italian cooperation since 2024 and was included in the Mattei Plan in 2025. The new office was inaugurated by AICS Director Marco Riccardo Rusconi in the presence of Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana, Laura Ranalli. Among those in attendance were the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur; the Minister of Youth, George Opare Addo; the Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Abas Apaak; and the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach. Also present were the heads of cooperation from partner countries, representatives of United Nations agencies, and representatives of civil society organizations, universities, and the private sector. AICS is thus consolidating its presence in the country and in Africa more broadly—a continent where the agency operates through 10 offices and, together with its local project offices, covers 24 countries—while strengthening its role as a key partner in development cooperation. “An increasingly solid foothold,” explains AICS, “that will allow us to intensify dialogue with institutions, cooperation partners, and local communities, paving the way for new opportunities for collaboration and growth, including through the management of European Union delegated cooperation projects.”
