Hanwha Solutions (009830.KS) is expanding its extra-high-voltage product lineup after its Wire & Cable unit completed technical verification in next-generation high-voltage alternating current, or HVAC, transmission.
The company said on the 16th that it had finished verifying a package of cross-linked polyethylene insulation and semiconductive materials for 500 kV HVAC cables, working with Chinese extra-high-voltage cable makers Qingdao Hanhe and TBEA.
The testing was overseen by TICW, a certification body affiliated with the Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute. Key items under review were insulation performance and long-term reliability required in extra-high-voltage transmission environments.
With the result, Hanwha Solutions has now established the reliability of its extra-high-voltage insulation materials technology up to 500 kV, after earlier qualifying at 400 kV. The company said it will also pursue certification from KEMA, an internationally accredited certification body, as it moves to expand materials supply in the global extra-high-voltage HVAC cable market.
Hanwha Solutions expects the verification to translate into global sales. The company forecast that sales of SEHV XLPE, its next-generation extra-high-voltage material, will double from a year earlier this year. In China in particular, it projected that sales of extra-high-voltage materials, including 325 kV-grade SEHV XLPE, will expand about threefold from last year.
"The successful materials testing is a milestone showing that Hanwha Solutions has secured global-level technological reliability in the field of cable materials for extra-high-voltage transmission," said Carlo Scalata, head of Hanwha Solutions Wire & Cable. "We will continue to broaden business opportunities in the extra-high-voltage cable market."
