The first census of business entities began in Uzbekistan on 15 October. The aim is to collect accurate assessment of economic activity in the country. The unobserved economy was earlier estimated at 23%. In agriculture, it accounts for 60% of total turnover.
Uzbekistan launched its first business census on 15 October, which will run until 30 November, the Ministry of Justice said.
Under a government resolution from 9 October, the census covers economic units, including legal entities, individual entrepreneurs, dehkan farms, self-employed people and entities operating without registration.
Legal entities must complete the census through hisobot.stat.uz, while self-employed individuals can do so through census.stat.uz.
To register those who does not undergo online census, enumerators will visit economic units at their actual places of operation during office hours.
Information about respondents is considered confidential and will be used exclusively for statistical purposes.
A call centre is available for questions and enquiries on the short number 1851.
Within 10 days of the census ending, enumerators will conduct follow-up checks covering up to 5% of registered economic units.
The final census results are expected to be published by 1 September 2027.
The census is intended to provide a more accurate assessment of economic activity in the country. The unobserved economy is estimated to account for 23% of the economy, or 246 trillion soums. In agriculture, it accounts for 60% of total turnover.
The incomes of 6.5 million of the country’s 15.2 million employed people (42%) are not fully reflected in official records. Some registered small and medium-sized businesses are effectively inactive or have ceased operations.
Earlier this year, Uzbekistan conducted its first nationwide population and agricultural census since 1989. It found that the country’s actual population was higher than previously estimated. The census also identified nearly 1 million hectares of land that had not previously been recorded in official statistics.
