A video allegedly showing self-proclaimed content creator Amir Shokeen racially harassing a youth from Tripura has surfaced on social media, drawing criticism over the targeting of people from the Northeast based on their physical appearance and identity.
According to reports, the youth was allegedly mocked as “Chinese” and subjected to derogatory remarks in the video. The footage has triggered condemnation, with concerns being raised over the normalisation of racial insults under the guise of humour and online content creation.
Furthermore, Amir Shokeen has issued an apology following backlash over a video allegedly showing him making racially offensive remarks towards a youth from Tripura. However, his clarification has sparked further debate, referring to the state as “Tripuram”, claiming he was unaware of its location and insisting that the video was scripted for entertainment purposes.
“Regarding my earlier video featuring a conversation with a youth from Tripuram, I want to clarify that the video was scripted and made purely for entertainment. I was not aware of where Tripura was located, and the person featured in the video was known to one of my friends.
My content generally focuses on humour and comedy, and there was no intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments or make fun of the people of Tripura. However, I understand that the video may have been perceived differently and may have hurt people’s feelings.
If anyone felt offended by the video, I sincerely apologise. I respect the people of Tripura and regret any hurt caused by my content,” he said.
