The Denver Broncos escaped Thursday’s clash against the Seattle Seahawks with a 17-14 win, despite the performance of quarterback Bo Nix.
The 26-year-old signal-caller, who’s just one year removed from a 3,931-yard, 25 touchdown season, had arguably the worst game of his NFL career against Seattle’s stout defense.
Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards, averaging a miniscule 4.0 yards per attempt.
Social media was quick to roast Nix for his underwhelming performance, but that paled in comparison to what former NFL QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had to say about Nix’s performance during the postgame broadcast.
“[The Broncos offense] was really frustrating to watch,” Fitzpatrick said. “And part of it for me is Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now.”
Fitzpatrick’s harsh critique didn’t stop there, however.
“First of all, the guy doesn’t want to throw the ball — that’s fine,” Fitzpatrick said. “He’s throwing to the flats, he’s throwing behind. But he has no trust from his coach. (Sean Payton) calls a screen play on third-and-8. Just run up and let the clock keep going. What does he do? He throws it away. Seattle gets the ball, they have a timeout, and then in overtime, he’s got two chances to be competitive. The last one being a designed run for him to run – make somebody miss and get a first down for your football team.
“Now, they’re in the locker room right now, they’re excited, they won; he’s not playing competitive football right now. … He’s not competing right now, and that’s something he’s hung his hat on for the last two years. I don’t know if he’s still injured or what’s going on, but it’s not good enough. It’s effort.”

Nix started his career with back-to-back seasons of 3,700 yards passing and 25 or more touchdowns, but this year he’s on pace for just 2,972 yards and 17 touchdowns.
There were high expectations for Denver’s offense after trading away a first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for star receiver Jaylen Waddle. But through six games, the offense has struggled to move the chains and score points.
Waddle (22) and running back RJ Harvey (23) are the only players with more than 13 catches this season, and Waddle is the only Broncos pass-catcher with more than 163 yards receiving.
