About 80 golfers are expected to gather in Asaba, Delta State, on November 7 for a retirement championship honouring veteran Nigerian golfer Rita Izoje, popularly known as Lady Pro.
The event, scheduled for Ibori Golf and Country Club, will celebrate Izoje’s contribution to Nigerian golf over more than three decades, as well as her 35 years in the civil service.
According to reports, the championship will bring together golfers, friends, associates and other well-wishers to recognise her achievements on and off the course.
Izoje represented Nigeria at the 2018 All Africa Challenge Trophy in Ghana, where she competed as part of the national team. She also built a reputation through her involvement in golf administration and her work with the Delta State Sports Commission.
Her association with Ibori Golf and Country Club in Asaba has also been an important part of her golfing career.
The organisers described the championship as an opportunity to celebrate her accomplishments and the relationships she has built within the sport.
The competition is expected to attract players from different parts of the country, with participation limited to 80 golfers.
The event will combine sporting activities with tributes to Izoje’s career, offering fellow golfers and admirers an opportunity to recognise her contribution to the game.
The championship is expected to provide a fitting occasion to celebrate a veteran whose career has spanned competitive golf, sports administration and public service.
