(ANSA) - STOCCOLMA, 22 OTT - The third edition of Italian Sports Day Around the World was celebrated again this year in Stockholm on October 21, with an event organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with Sinapse.
This year’s edition, titled “Italy: Land of Enterprises, Sea of Excellence,” focused on the sea, water sports, and related industrial sectors, particularly in anticipation of the America’s Cup to be held in Naples in 2027.
The event in Stockholm was dedicated in particular to sailing, swimming, and rowing, with a focus on technology and innovation in the sports sector. The event opened with an on-water demonstration of competitive sailing and rowing boats on the body of water in front of the Embassy, followed by remarks from Ambassador Michele Pala, who emphasized the importance of sports diplomacy as a tool for dialogue, collaboration, and the promotion of Italian excellence, and how water sports in particular bring together two nations surrounded by seas and rich in lakes, such as Italy and Sweden.
Speakers included Daniele Cardinale, head of the physiology and sports performance laboratory at the Swedish Sports Confederation; Johan Wallberg, a researcher at the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences and a former Olympic swimmer; Roberto Tiburzi, product category director for swimwear and sportswear at Arena; Laura Giovannetti Marimon, senior researcher at RISE and former international-level sailor; and Christian Harding, professional skipper. The presentations explored the relationship between scientific research, athletic training, technological innovation, and the development of equipment and skills in the world of water sports.
Other guests at the event included Sarah Sjöström, a multiple Olympic champion in swimming from Sweden; Marcus Hellqvist, deputy director for sports policy at the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs; and Andreas Kramer, a Swedish Olympic athlete who competes in the 800-meter race.
