Adrian Meronk was overcome with emotion after winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship earlier this month.
Adrian had good reason to feel like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. The win ended a nearly three-year title drought, and more importantly, it secured his DP World Tour card for the next season. The 33-year-old has carried his good form to the DP World India Championship here, where he holds the joint lead after the second round.
Speaking about the relief he felt after capturing his fifth DP World Tour title in Scotland, Meronk said, “It was a lot of emotions after Dunhill because I didn’t know what my situation would be next year, especially with all the news surrounding the future of LIV Golf. I didn’t have many good results this year, so I was grinding and really working hard on my game. When I finally won, all the emotion just came out. It was such a relief.”
With his future on the Tour secure, at least for another year, Meronk can now focus purely on his game and schedule for next year.
To grind is not new for Meronk, who hails from a country where golf is not popular. It was tough going at the start, but Meronk never stopped dreaming big. “It was definitely hard in the beginning, because I never had anyone to look up to,” Meronk said.
In July 2022, Meronk collected the Horizon Irish Open trophy to become the first Polish golfer to win on the European Tour. “It was always about breaking all records in the golfing world. Now I feel like a very experienced player, having played a lot of big tournaments against the best in the world. I know my potential, and I believe I can win on the biggest stage and keep breaking records,” he said.
