Armed bandits operating in Zamfara state have issued a fresh threat to kill and burn over 200 market-bound vehicles plying the Dansadau-Gusau road if their seized weapons are not returned.
The threat was contained in a video that has gone viral on social media, in which the bandits claimed responsibility for recent attacks along the route.
In the video, the gunmen said their actions were not unprovoked, but a reprisal following an attack by vigilante members on their relatives in a village in which some persons were killed and their weapons taken away.
The bandits said they will henceforth deal decisively with anyone who dares to stand in their way on the Dansadau-Gusau highway.
They further threatened that if their weapons are not returned, they will stop any vehicle on the road, kill all occupants and set the vehicle ablaze.
In the same video, the bandits also issued a stern warning to residents of Yarkatsina, Wanke and Magami communities, while accusing them of providing intelligence to security agencies.
They warned that if the communities continue to leak information about their movements to security operatives, they would sack the towns and turn them into ruins.
“We warn the people of Yarkatsina, Wanke and Magami that we have noticed they are giving security agents confidential information about us. Very soon, we will chase away every person in the area, and ensure the area becomes desolate,” the bandits said.
