Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry remains one of the biggest draws in the NBA. Curry’s star has not dimmed entering his 18th season, although various injuries have hampered him in recent years.
At 38 years old, the veteran guard will still be tasked with carrying the heaviest load on the Warriors. He has looked healthy in the preseason, which should be an encouraging sign for his millions of supporters.
However, in a report from NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole, Warriors coach Steve Kerr issued a stern reminder, underscoring the need to preserve Curry.

“We have fans who buy tickets expecting to see Steph. Usually Steph, sometimes other players. People expect to see vets, and then we have a back-to-back, and we don’t play him,” said Kerr.
“I would just come out and tell the fans out there to be mindful (of the schedule) when you’re buying the tickets because we’ve got not just Steph, but we’ve got multiple vets we are going to try to manage because it’s the only way we can do this.”
The 60-year-old Kerr wanted to be transparent early to avoid future disappointment. Over the years, multiple teams have embraced load management, especially for veterans, easing their wear and tear.
Last season, Curry played only 43 games, his fewest since 2019-2020, due to various ailments. He averaged 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.1 steals. He shot 46.8% from the field, including 39.3% from long distance.
Kerr added that they are trying a “different approach” with the two-time MVP.
“We’re really scaling back his overall workload and trying to find that sweet spot where he can still be in rhythm and be ready to play 32, 34 minutes without all the load that comes (with it),” said Kerr.
Aside from Curry, Golden State’s aging core includes Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Al Horford, Gary Payton II, and De’Anthony Melton.
