Organisers of the Adelaide Film Festival have issued a damning statement after one of its patrons allegedly fell victim to a homophobic attack.
In the early hours of Sunday, a man was lift needing hospital treatment following reports of an assault in Adelaide’s CBD — close to the city’s main railway station.

Earlier in the evening, the victim had attended an event as part of the festival, prompting organisers to condemn the attack in a lengthy statement.
“Following AFF’s Saturday Night Party screening of Jim Queen, presented with Feast Festival as a celebration of queer pride and community, a number of patrons continued their evening elsewhere in the city,” the statement reads.
“One patron was subsequently attacked while waiting for transport home. The reported nature of the abuse indicates the incident appears to be a homophobic attack.
“We are devastated that in Adelaide, in 2026, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community has been subjected to violence of this kind.
“AFF and Feast Festival unequivocally condemn homophobia, violence and discrimination in all its forms.
“Everyone has the right to feel safe and respected in our city.”
The shocking incident happened at 3.50am on Sunday, where North Terrace and Bank Street meet, near Adelaide railway station.
In a statement, an SAPol spokesman said the men alleged to have carried out the assault were unknown to the victim.
“The victim sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment,” the spokesman said.
Investigations to identify those responsible are ongoing.”
Anybody with information regarding the assault is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting referencing number 271558.
