KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Saturday said the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) extension from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park is expected to be completed in the current fiscal year.
During a surprise visit to the 1.8-kilometre project, the Governor reviewed construction work and directed officials to accelerate progress to facilitate commuters.
He said stations were being built along the route and the federal government had released its share of the project’s funding.
Hashmi described the Green Line as a major public transport initiative launched during former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s tenure. Karachi needed more investment in mass transit to improve commuting facilities.
He said the federal government remained committed to Karachi’s development despite constitutional constraints following the 18th Amendment. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif continued to support initiatives for the city.
Calling Karachi the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, the Governor said the city’s development was essential to the country’s overall progress.
