The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned proceedings in the corruption case involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to December 8, 2026, after a new prosecuting counsel was assigned to the matter.
The new prosecutor requested an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and familiarise himself with the proceedings before the next hearing.
El-Rufai appeared before Justice Hauwa Buhari at the Federal High Court in Kaduna as part of ongoing legal proceedings arising from allegations of financial misconduct linked to his administration.
The former governor left the court after the adjournment was announced.
The case is connected to investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) into alleged financial irregularities during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023.
The allegations centre on the management and expenditure of public funds under the administration, with the anti-corruption agency pursuing the matter through the legal process.
El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna from 2015 to 2023, has consistently denied wrongdoing and rejected allegations of financial misconduct associated with his administration.
His latest court appearance comes amid heightened scrutiny of the former governor’s tenure and the broader accountability drive by anti-corruption agencies.
The December 8 sitting is expected to provide the new prosecuting counsel an opportunity to proceed with the case after reviewing the evidence and other documents already before the court.
The adjournment means that no substantive determination was made on the allegations at the latest sitting.
As with all criminal proceedings, the allegations against El-Rufai remain allegations until established in court.
