Coach Nick Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles have an October 18 battle against Bryce Young’s Carolina Panthers on tap and will start Tanner McKee at quarterback after he received a message from injured start Jalen Hurts. Hurts’ superficial blood clot in his calf prompted a report on the situation and illuminated a deadline regarding his future injured reserve list status.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler joined Kevin Negandhi on Sportscenter to discuss the Hurts situation and revealed that a deadline is drawing near for the Eagles to make a key decision.
“(The Eagles) are in the process of determining whether he would have to go on short-term IR which he would have to do by tomorrow (October 17) afternoon,” Fowler said, adding that Eagles representatives are hoping Hurts won’t have to go on IR.

The Eagles are expected to be without star running back Saquon Barkley for the third straight week as they look to go to 3-3 on the season with a win over Carolina. The Eagles running game has been ravaged by injuries to Hurts, who is one of the NFL’s best runners at the quarterback position, Barkley and Tank Bigsby, who is currently on IR. Another Eagles running back joined Bigsby which left the team’s depth chart looking slim heading into the weekend.
Hurts’ absence is a tough one, but McKee has proven capable in limited action with Sirianni’s team. A win over the Panthers seems like a difficult proposition amid so many injuries, but the Eagles’ defense is the X-factor as the game gets closer.
