Supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State have staged a peaceful protest at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the inclusion of the party’s governorship candidates in the final list for the 2027 election.
The protesters, who gathered at the commission’s office on Friday, called on INEC to address the omission of the party’s governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu.
They urged the electoral body to correct what the party described as an error and publish the names of both candidates to ensure the NDC can participate in the forthcoming governorship election.
The demonstration followed complaints by the party’s Kano chapter over the absence of its candidates from the final list released by INEC.
The party has denied responsibility for the omission, attributing the development to a computer glitch within INEC’s system.
The NDC maintained that it had completed all the necessary nomination procedures and fulfilled the requirements for presenting candidates for the election.
During Friday’s protest, party leaders reiterated their demand for the commission to resolve the issue and recognise Gwarzo and Rabiu as the party’s governorship candidate and running mate.

They insisted that the candidates’ names should be included in the final list to prevent the party from being excluded from the electoral contest.
Party Appeals For Calm
Earlier, the NDC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Yusif Fasaha, appealed to party members and supporters to remain calm while the leadership engaged with INEC to resolve the matter.
Fasaha said the party had consulted the commission and was assured that the problem would be rectified.
“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us. We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was from the computer and that they would rectify it,” he said.
