After finishing second from bottom in the Premier League last season, Burnley are struggling to find their feet back in the Championship and already face the prospect of a second successive relegation.
Their miserable run continued this weekend with another defeat, extending their wait for a home league win to a full year.
The Clarets were beaten by Wolves, a result that took their winless run at Turf Moor to 365 days in league football.
The drought began during Burnley’s final season in the Premier League, when they went 15 consecutive home matches without a victory. That run carried over into the new campaign, although the Clarets managed to avoid defeat in their first six home games of the Championship season.
Over the past year, Burnley have played 21 league matches at Turf Moor, drawing 10 and losing the other 11. Their last home league victory came on 18 October 2025, when they beat Leeds United in the eighth round of the Premier League.
There is, however, a distinction worth making: the unwanted record applies only to league matches in England’s top two divisions. Burnley did manage a home win over Millwall in the FA Cup in January, before suffering another home defeat in the competition against third-tier Mansfield Town. They also drew with Notts County in the Carabao Cup this season.
Burnley already looking over their shoulders
Their struggles at Turf Moor have added to growing concerns about Burnley’s league position, with the club already in danger of being dragged into another relegation battle.
After 11 Championship matches, the Clarets have managed just one win - a convincing victory over Watford.
Beyond that result, Burnley have recorded five draws and five defeats. They have been stuck in the bottom three since the opening day and sit 22nd on eight points, ahead of only Derby County and Preston North End.
The poor start has inevitably raised questions about Nicky Hayen, who arrived at the beginning of the season for his first job in English football. So far, the Belgian has been unable to turn things around, with Burnley still searching for consistency and confidence.
With results showing little sign of improving, the Clarets have plenty of work to do if they are to avoid turning a difficult campaign into another relegation fight.
