FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived in Rabat for a new visit to Morocco coinciding with the start of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, praising the country’s passion for football and expressing his pleasure at returning to the kingdom.
Infantino was welcomed by Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, ahead of the tournament’s opening ceremony and inaugural match.
The visit highlights Morocco’s growing presence on the international football calendar as it continues to host major competitions across different age groups and categories.
Infantino expressed his pride in being back in Morocco, pointing to the kingdom’s growing standing in world football and its continued investment in developing the sport and hosting international tournaments.
He also praised the enthusiasm surrounding football in Morocco, saying the country’s passion for the game extended beyond the pitch and reflected broader values of tolerance, coexistence and peace that sport promotes worldwide.
Morocco has continued to strengthen its position as a host for international football events, drawing on improvements to its sports infrastructure and experience in welcoming national teams, delegations and supporters.
Hosting the U-17 Women’s World Cup represents another milestone in the country’s international tournament calendar and provides an opportunity to promote women’s football and showcase young talent from across the world.
The visit also comes as Morocco prepares for a major challenge in 2030, when it will co-host the men’s FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal. The tournament is expected to further test the country’s organizational capacity and reinforce its place on the global football stage.
