- 34MW system to strengthen power supply in six Cabo Delgado districts
Planning and Development Minister Salim Cripton Valá visited the mobile electrical substation intended for Awasse and the emergency towers acquired under the Northern Crisis Recovery Project (NCRP), to assess progress in implementing this infrastructure, which is essential to strengthening electricity supply and rebuilding Cabo Delgado province.
The system aims to improve electricity availability in northern Mozambique through the rehabilitation of Awasse substation and the reinforcement of the transmission line crossing the Messalo river.
With a capacity of 34 megawatts, the infrastructure is expected to ensure electricity supply to the districts of Macomia, Muidumbe, Mueda, Nangade, Palma and Mocímboa da Praia, helping to improve access to electricity for local communities and economic activities.
During the visit, held on Wednesday, the minister received technical explanations about the operation of the equipment, the mechanisms for controlling and distributing electricity, and the conditions required to ensure the system’s operation and maintenance.

Funded by the World Bank, the project, valued at around US$7 million, includes the supply and installation of equipment, as well as training for technicians from Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), to ensure the system can be operated and maintained.
The initiative forms part of efforts to recover and rebuild Cabo Delgado province, with the aim of strengthening electricity infrastructure, improving access to power and creating conditions for the resumption of economic activities and the development of the communities concerned.
