Bank branches in Gangtok, Sikkim, will remain closed on Thursday, October 22, 2026, on account of Durga Puja (Dasain), according to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) holiday calendar. Banks in other states, including Assam, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, are scheduled to remain open, while digital banking services will continue to operate across the country.
The regional holiday may affect customers planning to visit bank branches in Gangtokfor deposits, withdrawals and other in-person services. Customers in the affected area are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly.
Why Are Banks Closed on October 22?
The closure in Gangtok is due to Durga Puja, also observed as Dasain in Sikkim. The festival holds cultural and religious significance in the state, prompting the RBI to declare a holiday for bank branches in the Gangtok region.
The holiday applies to public sector and private sector banks, as well as regional rural banks operating in the affected area.
However, bank branches in other parts of the country, including Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka, are expected to function normally on Thursday. Customers in these locations can visit branches for routine banking services.
