The Edmonton Oilers are far and away the most entertaining team in the NHL this season and Connor McDavid is at the forefront of it. The Tampa Bay Lightning are in town to take on the Avalanche. Also, the Nashville Predators had another poor performance and fell to 3-3-3 on the season. At what point does Chris MacFarland start moving out some veterans?
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — October 23.
Colorado Hockey Now
The Colorado Avalanche had one of the more vocal and energetic practices I’ve seen in a long, long time coming off two bad losses on the road. Tonight, they’ll look for a bounceback against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Here’s a quick recap of yesterday’s skate.

Connor McDavid’s redemption season is in full swing. Through the first 10 games, he has 31 points and the Edmonton Oilers are 8-1-1. McDavid is on pace for more than 250 points and legit has a chance to be the second player in NHL history to hit 200 points in a season, as crazy as it sounds.
The Oilers won 6-5 in a shootout against the Carolina Hurricanes. McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each had five points, marking the second time they’ve done that in the same game. Speaking of Draisaitl, he’s up to 21 points in 10 games, which is second in the NHL but a whopping 10 behind McDavid. Just insane numbers from those guys.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins had quite the performance to break out of their funk.
Philly Hockey Now: The Flyers have now won three games in a row after starting the season 0-6-3. Is their youth movement making veterans expendable?
San Jose Hockey Now: The Sharks tripled up the Ottawa Senators to get back in the winning column.
Florida Hockey Now: After an emotional game between the Senators and Panthers on Wednesday, both teams played and lost (badly) the following night.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Arseny Gritsyuk is having himself a hot start, and it continued on Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks.
Montreal Hockey Now: The second-longest active Ironman streak in the NHL after Brent Burns is Nick Suzuki. His run is unfortunately coming to an end.
Boston Hockey Now: The final score of the latest Predators game, a 6-0 loss to the Boston Bruins, makes you wonder what Chris MacFarland is thinking. He’s going to start wheeling and dealing some veterans really soon if this continues, I’d guess.
Forever Blueshirts: The Maple Leafs can’t defend all that well, but boy do they love scoring goals this season. They defeated the Rangers with a last-minute game-winner.
