The Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) will hold its second Annual Research Day on Wednesday (October 14) with 428 undergraduate students set to receive the Research Appreciation Award and research scholarships. The event will also feature the Dr. M.S. Valiathan Memorial Oration. KUHS Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal will inaugurate the function, while Sanghamitra Pati, Additional Director-General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), will deliver the memorial oration.
The Research Appreciation Award was instituted by KUHS on the lines of the ICMR’s research initiatives to encourage undergraduate students to take up scientific research early in their academic careers. Students in the second and third years of four-year undergraduate programmes are eligible to submit research protocols for consideration. Those who meet the university’s prescribed requirements will receive a scholarship of ₹10,000 and a certificate.
The initiative aims to foster a research culture across medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, Ayurveda, homoeopathy and paramedical disciplines. It also seeks to encourage students to pursue scientific studies and publish their findings in research journals.
