The Zamfara State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security in Damba and other parts of Gusau following a recent security incident that claimed the lives of police personnel.
The Command said the Commissioner of Police, A.M. Bello, visited the area to assess the security situation and evaluate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the Command clarified that a report published by Arewa PUNCH on October 20, 2026, titled “Bandits Attack: Zamfara Residents Flee, CP Laments Duty Officers Asleep,” misrepresented the purpose of the police chief’s visit.
“The Command wishes to clarify that the report’s portrayal of the visit by the Commissioner of Police, CP A.M. Bello, PSC+, MNIPS, CCNP, is misleading regarding the purpose of his visit and the Command’s security efforts in the area,” the statement said.

According to the police, Bello’s visit was aimed at ensuring adequate security coverage for residents and other members of the public.
The statement added that the visit formed part of the Command’s proactive efforts to strengthen security arrangements, identify operational gaps and implement measures to prevent further attacks.

“The visit was part of the Command’s proactive efforts to strengthen security arrangements, identify operational gaps, and ensure that appropriate measures are implemented to prevent further attacks and safeguard lives and property,” it stated.

The Command acknowledged the loss of its personnel in the incident and extended its condolences to their families, describing the sacrifice of the fallen officers as a reminder of the risks associated with protecting the public.
It also assured residents of Damba and other parts of Gusau of its commitment to improving security through strategic deployment, effective supervision, intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.

The police urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could help prevent crime and apprehend criminal suspects.
The Command also called on members of the public and media organisations to verify information with the appropriate authorities before publication to prevent the spread of misleading reports.
