Located at 24 Dudley Road, the property was sold for A$420,000 on January 20, 2005
A home in Wonga Park, a suburb of Melbourne in Australia, has a feature that sets it apart from an ordinary family property: a miniature railway running through its garden, complete with an electric train, a tunnel and a timber trestle bridge.
Located at 24 Dudley Road, the property sold for A$420,000 on January 20, 2005. Nearly 21 years later, it changed hands for A$1.375 million on December 6, 2025, according to Australia's primary digital property platform realestate.com.au. The difference between the two sale prices is A$955,000. The December 2025 price was more than three times the amount recorded in 2005. However, the property also underwent changes over the years, and the sale prices alone do not establish how much of the increase was attributable to the railway or other features.
A 160-metre railway was part of the property in 2005
The outdoor space was also a major selling point with a 160-metre train track with a five-inch gauge.
As per the original listing on Australian residential property portal View, the listed house is an A-frame home on a block measuring nearly half an acre, with views towards Mount Dandenong. The advertisement highlighted five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge and dining area with an open fireplace, and a separate family room adjoining the kitchen. The outdoor space was also a major selling point. The listing specifically advertised a 160-metre train track with a five-inch gauge, describing it as an attraction the whole family could enjoy.
The property also had a patio, a garage and workshop, a carport, a wine cellar and additional storage. The railway was therefore not a feature added to the property shortly before its latest recorded sale. It was already being promoted as part of the home when it was marketed in 2005.
